Do I need to know how to meditate to join the retreat?

The meditations during the retreat will be guided by our teacher Kushok Lobsang Dhamchöe. You do not need to have previous experience with meditation to join this retreat. Learning under a skilled teacher like Kushok is the perfect way to ground your practice in this centuries old tradition of mindfulness.

Can I attend if I’m not Buddhist?

The teachings during the retreat will focus on mindfulness meditation, compassion, and altruism. These universal ethics and practices are common to most spiritual traditions and can fit comfortably into your life whether you identify as Buddhist, Christian, Jewish, Baha’i, Muslim, or any other faith. For people who are agnostic or secular these practices can offer a kinder and gentler approach to relationships, both personal and professional.

What type of yoga will be taught?

Our morning yoga classes will be Hatha Yoga. These classes will be accessible for all levels, including beginners. Our yoga teacher, Timmie Horvath, is skilled in teaching to a wide variety of clients and can accommodate most requests and levels of ability.

What are the age requirements to attend?

This retreat is geared towards adults/seniors. Retreatants should be 18 years of age or older. Guests who bring children would be responsible for 1) any additional room cots for extra beds/guests and 2) their own childcare as at this time the JPL is not offering childcare services. In order to provide a focused learning environment for all retreatants, children are not able to attend retreat sessions.

When do I arrive and when do I leave the Jasper Park Lodge?

Arriving early on August 22 gives you a chance to explore the town of Jasper before check-in. Check-in time is 4:00 p.m. at the Jasper Park Lodge. Checking in at 4:00 is encouraged to give you time to settle into your room before the orientation and welcome dinner at 6:00 p.m. If you will be arriving later, restaurants are open until 9:30 p.m. and pubs/lounges are open until 1:00 a.m.

There will be a farewell dinner at 6:00 p.m. on August 27. The retreat will end at 12:00 p.m. on August 28; room checkout time is 11:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to stay for lunch but if you are departing right after the retreat ends you will be able to take a grab and go lunch.

Are there vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free meal options?

Dietary restrictions can be accommodated for group meals with advance notice. Please note any special dietary requirements you may have when you correspond with us after registering.

Can I stay at another hotel rather than at the Jasper Park Lodge?

Retreatants benefit from the full experience of being on site as part of the group. We are unable to accommodate additional attendees who are not staying at the JPL.

Do I have to attend the full week?

To get the full restorative experience of being in retreat we encourage all guests to arrive on August 22 and depart on August 28. We are unable to offer daily rates or discounted packages for partial attendance.

Do I have to follow the retreat schedule?

The richest experience will be participating in all yoga, meditation, and teaching sessions during the retreat. Afternoons and evenings are free to explore the town and natural surroundings. However, if you need additional rest at any point during the retreat, please feel welcome to flex the schedule to meet your needs and take care of your health.

What is your refund policy if I need to cancel my registration?

The non-refundable deposit is due at the time you register. If you cancel before May 31, 2022 you will be refunded the payment you have made to date minus the $500 deposit. If you cancel after May 31, 2022 no refund can be given as we will have already paid the full retreat costs to the JPL for you.

What is the final deadline to register?

The last day to register is June 30, 2022. For any bookings made between June 1-30, 2022 the full amount is due immediately upon registration.

What is the Jasper Park Lodge pet policy?

A flat fee of $50 per room, per night applies regardless of the number of pets staying with you and will be added to your guest room for deep cleaning services. This fee includes water bowls, treats, dog bedsand pet waste bags are provided when you stay with us. Due to health regulations, pets are not allowed in any of the hotel restaurants, kids’ room, games room, pool or spa. Guests are liable for any damages and or repairs other than normal wear and tear that may occur. The Municipality of Jasper bylaws require that all dogs be kept on a leash unless otherwise posted. A “dog wash” station is set up at the Jasper Car Wash in the Jasper Industrial Park. Pet food can be purchased at TGP and Robinson’s Foods. Specialty pet food is available at Nutter’s Natural Foods and Jasper Veterinary Clinic.
